It takes years to build a Legacy. Even Decades. Or sometimes Centuries.

Groot Constantia’s is testimony of how one man’s love for wine established South Africa’s first wine farm in 1685. Our wines are from rich African soil, crafted to perfection. Groot Constantia memories are part of literature and heritage and embodies the timeless endeavour to perfection. Our heritage stands for growth, life and beauty. It is alive and vibrant, like the vineyards we hold dear. It is in our hearts.

It’s our Legacy.

GROOT CONSTANTIA STANDS AS A PINION OF EXCELLENCE

It is still, after a history of more than 300 years, a fully operational farm and one of South Africa’s most visited tourist attractions where a wide range of quality estate wines are created and sold (Seven days a week).

With a variety of other attractions, including the remarkable restaurants & museums a visit to Groot Constantia becomes an unforgettable experience. Groot Constantia had many different owners and consequently the Estate has also been divided a few times.

In 1993, before the dawn of democracy in South Africa, the Estate was transferred to a Not for Profit Company (Ringfenced) through an Act of Parliament.  In terms of the founding document, the company has 13 directors representing different stakeholder that have the right to nominate candidates. The Groot Constantia board, on the recommendation of the nomination’s committee, appoints the directors at the Annual General meeting. The directors represent a wealth of diverse skills, expertise and experience, including winemaking, education, heritage, history, community development, tourism, finance and legal aspects.

The Groot Constantia Trust NPC RF has no shareholders, is independent, self-reliant and sustains itself in every respect. Financial surplus goes back into the operations and maintenance of the Estate, and if any funding required it is obtained from banks at normal lending rates.

Directors serve the company without any compensation, with the pride and passion to keep this South African landmark flourishing.

Groot Constantia Trust NPC RF has several stakeholders, partners and associates locally and internationally. These include the wine industry, tourism, heritage, government at all three tiers, media, and community bodies. Groot Constantia values and remains committed to these relationships in order to preserve its legacy.
