SUMMARY:Petite Giselle Salt-ed
DESCRIPTION:\nOne programme, two ballets. Experience exquisite excepts from Maina Gielgud’s traditional Giselle, paired with highlights from the acclaimed SALT\n\n\n\nSix performances only for Cape Ballet Africa’s Petite Giselle and SALT-ed at The Drama Factory\n\n\n\nFollowing two previous sold-out runs at The Drama Factory, Cape Ballet Africa returns to premiere a new programme for six performances only at the venue. Experience the magic of one programme, two ballets with this dynamic ballet company’s Petite Giselle and SALT- ed.\n\n\n\nEnjoy exquisite excerpts from Maina Gielgud’s traditional Giselle, paired with Michelle Reid’s sizzling Smoke, which is part of Cape Ballet Africa’s much-lauded triple bill SALT.\n\n\n\nAdditionally, The Drama Factory audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the first South African performances of Kirsten Isenberg’s new pas de deux, Nocturne, which premiered at the prestigious international Benois de la Danse 2025.\n\n\n\nChoreographed by Maina Gielgud, Cape Ballet Africa presents selected highlights from popular classic Giselle, a romantic story of innocent love and betrayal.\n\n\n\nMaina Gielgud is an internationally acclaimed choreographer, dancer and teacher. She has danced with companies around the world, including Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Australian Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, CAPAB, PACT, and the London Festival Ballet. She was also the director/associate director of the Australian Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and Houston Ballet. With SALT-ed be swept up in the beauty and tour-de-force energy of Michelle Reid’s Smoke.\n\n\n\nMaggie Foyer, writing in Dance Europe commented, “Smoke, a smouldering, jazzy piece, closed the evening on a high. Michelle Reid’s choreography is witty, with a clever play of dynamics to build a head of steam”.\n\n\n\n“We are honoured to have Ms Gielgud with us to stage her full production of Giselle in November at The Baxter. We are delighted that the timing has landed perfectly to be able to offer The Drama Factory audiences highlights of this magnificent ballet,” says Debbie Turner, Founder and Artistic Director of Cape Ballet Africa.\n
