It would take a while to learn all these. In fact, it is a learning process that will require endless tweaking of the way you submit […]

1. More than just back links to your website. There was a time when directories were only just a place to leave links to your website. That’s no longer what makes up directories these days. You are not only leaving tiny, unnoticeable links on a huge web page but an entire banner that will serve as your advertisement. This gives you more visual exposure to entice your potential clients into checking out what your business has to offer. At just R299 a year for that advertising space, compared to the cost of advertising on other, PR-rich sites, the cost is ridiculously low. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is done for you.Let’s face it, SEO isn’t exactly the easiest of things to understand. Unless you have been learning the nuances in algorithms and the various SEO techniques you can employ in your website, you might feel lost amidst the vast property of the World Wide Web, keyword building, meta tags and descriptions. It would take a while to learn all these. In fact, it is a learning process that will require endless tweaking of the way you submit […]

A Summary of “Popi” The Protection Of Personal Information Act, Act No. 4 Of 2013
The purpose of Act to is protect personal information, to strike a balance between the right to privacy and the need for the free flow of, and access to information, and to regulate how personal information is processed.WHEN WILL IT COME INTO FORCE?The Act was signed into law in November 2013, and in April 2014 certain sections of the Act came into force. The sections which came into force were:the sections giving the definitions of certain terms that are used in the Act;the sections dealing with the appointment of the administrative body that will oversee the operation of the Act, namely theInformation Regulator; andthe sections empowering the Minister and the Information Regulator to make regulations as regards the implementation of the Act.Everybody is now awaiting the final implementation of the Act which we think is imminent. The reason for this belief is that the office of the Information Regulator has been filled (by Adv. Pansy Tlakula and some other members) and they will soon have the capacity to implement the Act.Once the Act comes into force, we will have 12 months to bring our business practices in line with the new laws. The cross referencing in the Act is particularly confusing […]
Discover Your Life Purpose
Determining what our purpose is in life can be one of the hardest questions that we as humans try to answer. In this Blog I will be sharing a step by step process, exploring your feelings and options, and by the end, you should have a fairly solid tool that you can immediately employ in your life, to help give it a meaningful direction! There are three steps to the process of discovering the purpose of your life:Understanding the principle of choiceCreating your “underlying principle”Aligning your life with this underlying principleUnderstanding The Principle of ChoiceNorman Vincent Peale has this to say about the power of choice. “The greatest power we have is the power of choice. It is an actual fact, that if you have been groping under unhappiness, you can choose to be joyous, instead. And, by effort, lift yourself into joy. If you tend to be fearful, you can overcome that misery by choosing to have courage. The whole trend and the quality of anyone’s life is determined by the choices that are made”.“Choosing” is the most important activity of your mind, because by making a choice, you are proclaiming your desires to your subconscious mind. Once the subconscious mind gets to know your […]
How to Slay the Giant: Procrastination
We are all guilty of it, at some time or the other. We put off our exercise routine until tomorrow; we continually delay finishing that project, writing that training manual or starting that business.Procrastination is the mother of all demons and can literally stop you in your tracks from achieving all that you desire. Here are Four effective processes you can use to slay this giant. One: “Suck It Up Cupcake”“Suck it up Cupcake”! Just close your eyes, hold your breath and jump right in! Putting things off until the last minute is a terrible habit and like all habits, is ingrained in our subconscious mind and becomes harder and harder to break, the more we repreat it, the more it feels like the normal thing to do and we simply continue along our path, forging the habit and repeating the same pattern. Two: Take Small StepsSometimes we procrastinate because we feel intimated or tormented by the task. Perhaps we have no possible idea on where or how to start. In these cases, it is perfectly acceptable to take it one step at a time.Break the task down into smaller, manageable tasks and tackle them one at a time.Lets say for example, you […]

Who Does What in Marketing, Advertising, and Sales?
It’s easy for confusion to set in when you begin tossing around terms like advertising, marketing, and sales. The truth is that most people don’t understand the difference – even many who work in these fields. It is not uncommon for sales jobs to be listed in the marketing jobs classifications, and the same is true when it comes to jobs that pertained to advertising. But there’s a difference, and each of these components has a part to play in the success of a company. They support each other, but they are not the same. Let’s take a look at the defining differences. The Definition of MarketingMarketing is the systematic planning, implementation, and control of a mix of business activities that are intended to bring together buyers and sellers for the mutually advantageous exchange or transfer of products. It involves the management of the other components. It’s been said that the four P’s of marketing are product, price, place, and promotion. Product and price are self-explanatory. Place refers to where your target customer or client is located – you need to reach them there through another component, that of advertising. And to do that, you’ll need a promotion strategy. The Role of AdvertisingAdvertising is the paid, public, non-personal announcement […]
Marketing vs. Advertising vs. Branding
Marketing, Advertising & Branding…. Oh My!It’s no secret that there is a lot of confusion between marketing, advertising and branding. But I think marketers are partly to blame. If you do a search online, you’ll find no shortage of articles explaining the differences. In fact, “What is the difference between marketing and advertising?” brings up over a hundred million results alone. A hundred million! And that doesn’t even include queries on branding. Here are just a few examples of what marketers have to say about the differences between marketing, advertising, and branding:“Marketing is a “push” tactic. Branding is a “pull” strategy.”“Marketing is about preparing your product for the marketplace. Advertising is spreading the word about your products to the marketplace.”“Advertising is the message about your business. Branding is the message you receive from others.”What does that all mean anyway?Part of the problem is that marketers have a tendency to get caught in a cycle of “marketing speak” that, in truth, can become meaningless to others. “Push tactic.” “Pull strategy.” And the like.I know. I’ve done it. And I’m trying to break the habit. So I thought I’d try a different approach to help make sense of it all.Written for the small business owner. Not […]
Do I Need A Website For My Business?
30 PERCENT OF CONSUMERS WON’T CONSIDER A BUSINESS WITHOUT A WEBSITE Your website is your number one marketing asset because we live in a digital age. By now, consumers expect companies to have an online presence (including a website) and will consider a company that DOESN’T have one as less professional. PEOPLE ARE SEARCHING FOR YOU ONLINE One of the benefits of having a website for small businesses is to be where your consumers are. There’s a reason so many companies invest in a website with search engine optimization (SEO): 97 percent of people go online to find a local business, and 93 percent of online experiences begin with a search engine. Believe it or not, there are 3.5 billion searches on Google per day, and at this very moment, there is someone in your area online and searching for your exact service. Guess who’s getting their business? Not you. A WEBSITE MAKES YOU LOOK PROFESSIONAL 84% of today’s consumers think a website makes your business more credible than companies who only have social media profiles. Your website is also the perfect place to show off any professional certifications or awards your business has. Beyond that, having your own website […]
Top 10 Reasons to Advertise Your Business
Advertising can be one of the most vital aspects of a business. It is the most direct and important connection to the consumer. When consumers feel personally connected to an advertisement they are more likely to frequent your business. Some businesses question whether or not investing in an advertising budget will be worth it and that is a big mistake. Here are ten reasons why Advertising is a company’s best friend. Advertising generates brand loyalty– Advertising allows for companies to target their customers and form a lasting connection with them. It instils a sense of familiarity and trust within the consumer, ensuring that they remain loyal to your business. Advertisements use images, words, and ideals that target your desired demographic and encourages them to stay devoted to your business. Advertising increases company traffic– Many consumers are more likely to visit a business after viewing an advertisement. More consumers mean more sales and more business for you. *A survey of more than 3,000 companies found that advertisers who maintained or expanded advertising over a five-year period saw their sales increase an average of 100 percent, and companies that cut advertising grew at a less than half the rate of those who […]
Why Do Website Prices Vary So Much?
Many joke that the WWW does not stand for World Wide Web, but rather Wild Wild West and that is not a bad analogy. There are no industry standards, no laws governing practices or who can call themselves a webmaster or web designer. It is buyer beware to the nth degree and that includes the price of a website which varies greatly. Because of that lack of standards, there is also a lack of consistency. Not only is consistency lacking in the quality of the product between different developers/designers, but there is no consistency in the pricing either. The same site some boutique firm will charge eight thousand rand for and the site created you could have done better yourself. So what is the difference, why do website prices vary so much? There are some things that separate providers in the web design space and contribute to the variation in website pricing: Overhead If a designer is spending so much time being creative then they have waaayy too much overhead. Creativity takes time, time costs money, and money is passed along to the consumer. Hip and trendy offices don’t help you or your company achieve your online goals. Customer service […]
What Should You Pay For A Website?
Firstly “something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it” is hogwash because what is something worth when some people are willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for it and others are not willing to spend much of anything… and it seems to be the exact same thing? That is the world of web design. In this industry we have completely free sites like Wix and Weebly (you have to do it all yourself, but they are totally free) and then you have firms that charge over ten thousand dollars, and you have every price point in between being charged for a website. And they are all more or less the same. To the end user, the people who surf the website and even to the company/people which it represents, a website is a website is a website. That means that the value of the website is literally what you are willing to pay for it and that contradicts what we said in our opening paragraph. So that begs the question… what should you pay for a website? You have probably gotten quotes from a couple different design firms and done some research into what other […]
